Biography
Miriam Smith writes comedy – compulsively, she used to slip jokes into her science homework. She also has treatment resistant schizophrenia, diagnosed at 13. She usually does not write about her illness, why would she, she has to live with it every day without spending time writing about it.
When not writing she enjoys playing violin and guitar and working on maths or logic puzzles (she has very high intelligence, which really doesn’t make up for being insane). Also a Christian, specifically an evangelical protestant.
What is your story, Mim?

My first composition was at the age of four: “Hey down za mountain, oh hey down za mountain”, then structured poetry at 5, and short stories at age 7. I got my first paid job writing comedy for the radio, I think in my early 20s, which taught me to write material purposefully and to a deadline. I dabbled in stand up comedy, and although my material was good my delivery was awful, which is why I went back to writing. The dog in my photo is Calypso, she’s a Kelpie x and my second service dog. On the subject of service dogs, I would like to say this: when I am in a public place, please to not whistle at, talk to or try to pat my dog.

Where do your ideas come from?

I have a twisted, twisted mind – I partially blame Spike Milligan.
